The Centre for Indian Ocean Studies at Tamil University has been established as a part of the activities of the Department of Maritime History and Marine Archaeology. The purpose of the Centre for Indian Ocean Studies is to undertake historical, archaeological and cultural research in the areas of Indian Ocean. The Centre will act as a platform for networking with various researchers and institutions across the world. The centre would organise workshops, training programmes and seminars and bring out publications.

Aims

• * Investigations on the history, archaeology, heritage and culture of the Indian Ocean Regions and other Oceans
• * Creation of awareness on Indian Ocean cultural heritage among the public

Activities

• * Development of Network through MOUs with foreign educational and Research Institutions for involvement in Research
• * Organisation of Special lectures
• * Organisation of Seminars, Workshops and Training Programmes
• * Publications of books and Monographs
• * Offering affiliation for Post-Doctoral Researchers
• * Attachment of Visiting Professors, Researchers, and Adjunct
• * Professors and Researchers for encouraging research
• * Creation of Research Chairs
